On 28 October 2025, our CEO Paolo Viskanic participated in the II Seminario Internacional “Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación al servicio de las coberturas vegetales urbanas” at the Jardín Botánico José Celestino Mutis in Bogotá, Colombia.
The event brought together experts and institutions from Latin America and Europe to exchange knowledge on how science and innovation can enhance the resilience of urban green infrastructure.
In his lecture, “The New Frontiers of Urban Green Management — Challenges and Best Practices”, Paolo presented how GreenSpaces, the R3GIS platform used in over 15 countries, supports cities in managing their trees, parks, and assets efficiently and transparently.
He demonstrated how tools such as LiDAR mapping, digital twins, and IoT sensors can provide actionable data to understand and improve ecosystem services, from CO₂ sequestration to cooling and air-quality improvement.
Paolo also highlighted the importance of citizen participation and interoperable digital systems, emphasizing that resilient cities are built on up-to-date information, professional expertise, and collaboration between institutions and communities.
“There is no ideal solution,” he concluded. “We need open, flexible, and interoperable approaches. Let’s work together to make cities more liveable and resilient.”
The seminar closed with a strong message: sustainable urban management depends on continuous innovation, shared research, and dialogue between disciplines, principles that guide R3GIS’s work since its foundation.
